Artist of the Week: Remembering Chris Cornell

In the wake of iconic frontman Chris Cornell’s tragic passing last week, it’s time to look back and reflect on the incredible contributions that he made to the music world. An originator of the 1990s grunge movement, Chris will always be remembered for his powerful voice that some have described as “flawless.”

Although a prolific solo artist in his own right, Cornell was most at home with Soundgarden — one of the most successful bands from Seattle's emerging grunge scene, alongside Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam. The band formed in 1984, and continued to tour through this year.

Soundgarden’s extensive discography consists of six studio albums, one live album, five compilation albums, eight extended plays, 24 singles and 23 music videos. Their most famous hit is “Black Hole Sun,” a song on the album Superunknown which topped the Billboard 200 and has sold 3.9 million copies.

Back in 2014, Soundgarden released the deluxe reissue of their 1994 album Superunknown in celebration of the record's 20th anniversary. To commemorate the milestone, Chris personally curated his very own iHeartRadio Guest DJ station that includes the entire remastered album as well as some additional B-sides and exclusive content.

Chris Cornell was an indisputable rock-star legend, and he will be missed by many in the music world and beyond. In honor of Chris Cornell’s legacy, we encourage you to tune in here to Chris Cornell Tribute Radio to revisit his most classic songs.
