Artist of the Week: Demi Lovato
Pop superstar and songstress Demi Lovato has always kept it real, and on her new single “I Love Me,” that’s never been truer. This upbeat anthem is all about Lovato’s journey toward self-acceptance—and it’s as danceable as it is inspiring.
The song’s lyrics say it all: “I’m a black belt when I’m beating up on myself / But I’m an expert at giving love to somebody else / I wonder when I love me is enough?”
Lovato also released the accompanying music video today. In it, she puts her MMA skills and comedic acting chops to good use. The video begins with the star battling alternate versions of herself—one is very mean to her other selves, and the other is extremely zen. But after realizing it’s not getting her anywhere, the goofy battle ends. Lovato then strolls through city streets in a fabulous red leather jacket, surrounded by dancers. Watch closely and you’ll see scenes and people from her past pop up around her: a mom taking her young daughter to an acting audition, three Jonas Brothers look-alikes and a stone-cold Demi doppelganger being guarded by a tough entourage.
This bop makes it clear that Demi is ready for a new chapter in her life, and she's learned that she's enough on her own. Her lyrics say it best: “I’m a 10 outta 10 / Even when I forget it!”
“I Love Me” is the latest from Lovato’s upcoming seventh studio album, which is expected to be released later this year. Head over to iHeartRadio and start singing along today!
