#NewMusicTuesday: Shawn Mendes, “In My Blood” and “Lost in Japan”

Fans have come to expect swoon-worthy ballads from pop sensation Shawn Mendes, but it’s clear that the singer is experimenting with new sounds for his upcoming third album! Last week, Mendes released not one but two new singles, “In My Blood” and “Lost in Japan,” and we are loving both!

Mendes found an edgier, rock sound in “In My Blood,” giving listeners a glimpse of a more raw and vulnerable artist. “Lost in Japan,” meanwhile, creates a virtually opposite effect—the track has an R&B flavor that we haven’t yet heard from the singer/songwriter. If these new tunes are any indication of the music that we can expect from Shawn’s upcoming album, we’re excited about his new bold and more mature sound!

The singer/songwriters last record, Illuminate, was a major success—it topped the Billboard 200 in 2016, and singles “Treat You Better” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” were among Billboard’s Hot 100.
