#NewMusicTuesday: Khalid, “Silence”
Who better to highlight on #NewMusicTuesday than one of our very own iHeartRadio Music Festival performers! This week’s song “Silence” comes from featured artist Khalid, who we were lucky enough to see live on Saturday afternoon – the 19 year old R&B star sure knows how to please a crowd!
DJ and electronic music producer Marshmello released the single “Silence” with Khalid in August and its debut was anything but silent. In its first week, the song reached No. 42 on Billboard’s Hot 100, earning it the highest ranking debut of any track on that week’s chart. It was also both artists’ highest debut on the Hot 100 – an awesome preview into the future for these two rising stars! Aside from its success on the charts, Khalid is proud of how his personal experience influenced this hit track. Accepting his own loneliness and transforming that into a song to resonate with fans is a big win in his book.
When “Silence” debuted, Khalid was on tour for his first album American Teen, which jumpstarted the young singer’s career. The album’s hit single “Location” peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum as well. This summer’s “Young, Dumb & Broke” got listeners even more excited – we could barely hear Khalid over his excited fans singing at the iHeartRadio Music Festival!
Now that he’s done touring his American Teen album, Khalid’s looking forward to more collaborations in 2017. To hear who he has in mind, take a listen to our full interview with Khalid below and check out the rest of his tunes on iHeartRadio.com! Happy listening!
