Artist of the Week: Justin Timberlake & SZA
Justin Timberlake and SZA just released the first official single and music video from the upcoming Trolls World Tour movie—and, of course, it's a bop.
Titled “The Other Side,” the song officially debuted this past Wednesday and channels artists like Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson and Prince. It’s upbeat, fun and funky with inspiring lyrics to match. Over the song’s chorus, SZA and Justin Timberlake sing: “Back on your feet again, lift your head, hold it high / You wanna run it back, but you can't turn the time / You start to feel like you're losing your shine / But the grass ain't always greener on the other side.”
The music video’s aesthetic is futuristic with lots of metallic settings, glittery outfits and robotic dance moves. Shot using a fish-eye lens, the video pans in and out on SZA in a stunning silver bodysuit squatting alongside Timberlake who, in an all-black ensemble, tries to keep up with her awesome dance moves. Eventually, background dancers wearing similarly remarkable outfits and hairstyles join in and bust out a couple of moves. There are backflips, body rolls and SZA even does a headstand.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard new music from both artists: SZA’s last release was on the 2019 Game of Thrones soundtrack, and Timberlake put out Man of the Woods two years ago. In a statement from RCA Records, Timberlake described the thrill of working on this new project:
"It has been such a fun process writing and executive producing for this project. Being able to bring together different creatives from various disciplines and genres has been the most rewarding part.”
The full soundtrack will feature other artists like Anderson Paak, HAIM, Mary J. Blige and Kelly Clarkson and is set to arrive on March 13th. So while you await this epic release, head over to iHeartRadio and start bopping along to “The Other Side” today!
