Artist of the Week: Kenny Chesney
Kenny Chesney channels the healing power of music in his new album, Songs For the Saints, which drops today. The record is full of hope and love for the Virgin Islands, which were hit by category 5 hurricane Irma last September. The islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John were all but destroyed, and less than a year since the natural disaster, the residents of the islands are still reeling.
Chesney, who has a home in St. John, has spent a lot of time living on and interacting with the communities across the Virgin Islands. For him, the tragedy is a personal one, and channeling the emotions surrounding it into an album provided a release. Co-produced with Buddy Cannon, Songs For the Saints is affectionate and powerful—tracks like “Get Along” and “Better Boat” will have you tearing up.
