Artist of the Week: DJ Khaled
DJ Khaled’s long-awaited new album, Father of Asahd, is finally here and we can barely contain our excitement! This new album has been a long time coming: the Florida music mogul gave us a taste of the album with singles like “Top Off” and “No Brainer” in early 2018, and fans have been anxiously waiting for more ever since. Earlier this month, Khaled took to Instagram to post the album’s trailer with the caption, “My best album up to date.” And we agree!
The album’s title pulls from DJ Khaled’s newest life role: he is the father of a beautiful son, Asahd, who also appears on the album’s cover. Khaled has popularly expressed his excitement about fatherhood on social media, so it’s not surprising that Asahd has such a pivotal role in the album’s release.
This is Khaled’s eleventh studio album and, as is typical for him, the album is jam-packed with artist features. Stars like Beyoncé, Chance the Rapper, and Quavo were featured on the album’s first two singles, but the full album has even more. On Tuesday of this week, Cardi B teased her feature on Father of Asahd via Twitter. And, in addition to a Cardi collab, John Legend and the late Nipsey Hussle make an appearance on the album’s track “Higher.”
DJ Khaled also plans to put out an album documentary on the heels of the album’s release, called Father Of Asahd: The Album Experience. The movie will showcase the making of the album, and it’s set to be released exclusively to TIDAL on May 21. Mark your calendars!
