Artist of the Week: Ed Sheeran
Needless to say, Ed Sheeran is a household name: initially catching the attention of Elton John and Jamie Foxx in early 2011, Sheeran debuted his album + (plus) to critical praise, garnering attention for the delicate lead single, “The A Team.” Sheeran’s success continued to skyrocket after that — he played three consecutive sold out shows at Madison Square Garden in 2013, and won two Grammy Awards for his second record x (multiply) in 2016.
This year, both musically and critically, Sheeran is continuing to flourish. His latest album, ÷ (divide), was released on March 3rd, and the first two singles “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill” have already broken records in a number of countries for their top-spot debuts. Currently, “Shape of You” holds the No. 1 position on The Billboard Hot 100.
But it’s not all about the accolades — at his core, Ed Sheeran is a classic acoustic performer through-and-through. His signature riffs, and crisp, yet breezy, vocal melodies have remained a constant for his brief, but whirlwind, career thus far.
