Artist of the Week: Selena Gomez

The moment that Selenators have been waiting for has arrived: Two new songs from Selena Gomez are finally here! After two years of waiting for new music from the powerful pop songstress, “Lose You to Love Me” and “Look At Her Now” were released this week to great acclaim. The first of the two new singles, “Lost You to Love Me” came out this past Wednesday and is a quiet, vulnerable ballad about a heart wrenching break-up. And the second single was released Thursday: it’s called “Look At Her Now” and it’s a more up-tempo, empowering song that similarly speaks about a break-up and picking up the pieces after it.

Gomez has already stirred up some buzz with these two new singles. “Lose You to Love Me” includes lyrics that many fans believe are about her break-up with her famous ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber. But in a conversation with Ryan Seacrest this week, Gomez explained the song’s content carefully and honestly, saying that she felt it would “stupid” of her not to at least allude to how she felt on her new record because that’s how she aims to live her life – as freely and honest as possible.

“It would be inauthentic and that’s everything I claim to be and do. I know there are thousands of people, men and women, who had felt this feeling and it’s extremely real,” said Gomez.

Look At Her Now” is also a break-up song, but one that’s a little more fun. The song’s corresponding music video, which was also released this week, is technicolor and filled with fun choreography and excellent costume changes.

“They fell in love one summer / A little too wild for each other / Shiny ’til it wasn’t / Feels good ’til it doesn’t,” Gomez croons over the song’s changing beats and thick bass sounds.

Her new album is on its way, so stay tuned for more music from the marvelous Selena Gomez! But for now, stream “Lose You to Love Me” and “Look At Her Now” on iHeartRadio!
