#NewMusicTuesday: Justine Skye

If “U Don’t KnowJustine Skye, you’re missing out. The self-proclaimed Purple Unicorn stopped by iHeartRadio to give us exclusive details on her new single, upcoming album and what it was like to work with Jeremih.

Justine Skye got her start by offering to sing during a music panel she attended with her mother, a music attorney. Skye performed a cover of Sam Sparro ’s 2008 Dance hit “Black and Gold” in front of music executives and surprised everyone in the crowd. She went on to take singing lessons to hone her voice, and her hard work paid off with the release of her debut EP, “Everyday Living” on Atlantic Records in 2013.

Her latest single, “Back for More” features singer Jeremih, whose voice she told us meshed really well with her own. She describes her upcoming album as being “very different” and “aggressive” compared to what fans have previously heard from the songstress. She pushed herself to try something new by exploring different tones and even rapping on the album, slated for release in the fall.

While many believe that she’s from Los Angeles because of her sound – and where she does the majority of her recording – Justine Skye is actually a Brooklyn native, and this new album brings her back to her New York roots. Take a look at the exclusive video below to learn more about the singer, including her new sound, who she has always looked up to and why she has an affinity for the color purple.
