Artist of the Week: Halsey
We’ve done a lot of wild interviews, and our recent chat with Halsey definitely makes the list! Last month at the iHeartRadio Music Festival we caught up with the electropop star while chilling in a ball pit – talk about a childhood throwback! Halsey talked love, relationships and being her authentic self, all in addition to her killer performance at the festival. We just couldn’t get enough!
Halsey released her debut album Badlands in 2015 and quickly earned fans’ love with hit singles “Ghost,” “New Americana” and “Colors.” The album was certified platinum in the U.S. and foreshadowed her future success. Just a year later, Halsey collaborated with The Chainsmokers on "Closer,” which spent 11 weeks at the top of the Billboard Top 100 Chart. Closer surpassed Drake’s “One Dance” for the longest No. 1 single of 2016.
But Halsey didn’t stop there – her second album features the wildly successful “Now or Never” which peaked at No. 17 this summer and “Bad at Love,” an honest story of her past relationships with both men and women. Halsey released the album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom in June and is currently on tour wowing fans with her performances.
Wondering where the name Halsey comes from? The New Jersey native says it’s both an anagram for her real name, Ashley, and a reference to the Brooklyn subway stop at Halsey Street Station. We love it! Be sure to check out iHeartRadio for your favorite Halsey tunes and watch our full interview below!
