Artist of the Week: Sam Smith
The illustrious career of Sam Smith began back in 2014 with the release of their chart-topping single, “Stay With Me.” And six years later, we’re still obsessed with them. Just last month, the award-winning singer released “I’m Ready” with the queen of self-empowerment pop, Demi Lovato.
This single is a self-love anthem—just listen to the lyrics in the chorus: “I'm ready, I'm ready / For someone to love me (for someone to love me).” Recently, when discussing this song and its inspiration, Smith said: “I think that the purpose of this song is to feel no shame in what you do.”
“I’m Ready” was designed for the dancefloor, too. In a recent interview with Apple Music, Smith called the song “2020 Abba” because of its likeness to the Swedish pop group’s chart-toppers, such as “Dancing Queen.”
In addition to their new music, Sam Smith paid tribute to essential workers and those on the frontlines of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic this past Wednesday with an intimate performance for the iHeartRadio Living Room Concert Series presented by State Farm.
This week’s at-home concert benefitted No Kid Hungry, a national campaign to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. If you missed Smith’s performance, don’t fret! Fans can watch a replay of their concert here. Enjoy!
