Employee Playlist of the Month: Katherine Tyler
It’s that time again — get excited for the iHeartRadio Employee Playlist of the Month, featuring our National Photo Director, Katherine Tyler. Step into Katherine’s shoes and take a listen to her playlist here. You can also check out the full list below!
How come you chose the songs on your playlist?
I think music and photography are both heavily based in storytelling, so I have a special affinity for songs that are saying something pertinent in the world we are living in now. I also just genuinely love the songs on my playlist. I could listen to them a million times over and never get sick of them. I think that’s what makes music so great, because people have a visceral and almost inexplicable relationship with it.
When do you listen to this playlist most?
I have multiple alarms set in the morning (who doesn’t?) to songs from Childish Gambino’s Awaken My Love and Solange’s A Seat at the Table. It makes waking up a little less painful. Besides the fact that it’s the first thing I hear in the morning, I typically listen to my playlist in the car on road trips or while I work out.
Who is your dream artist to meet and why?
Dead – Michael Jackson! There is no one else like him. He revolutionized the way we interact with music and was an entertainer in every sense of the word. There are very few artists that have had that influence on people worldwide.
Alive – Beyoncé! I was a huge Destiny’s Child fan growing up. I never missed a DC3 concert and know every single one of her songs. I’ve met and shot a lot of artists, but I think that if I met Beyoncé I would be at a complete loss for words. She’s an artist who has no limits.
Can you share your most memorable music moment experience?
When Beyoncé dropped her first visual album I went to the screening at the SVA theater in Chelsea. I sat shamelessly in the front row hand in hand with my grade school friends. After watching the entire album straight through Beyoncé came out and teary eyed and thankful. I was surprised that she was so nervous and honest about her creative process and how it would be received. This is Beyoncé we are talking about. She can do no wrong. It’s rare that I get to experience things as a fan, so that experience is one for the books!
What is the best part about working at iHeartRadio?
I appreciate working with people who love music as much as I do. I also love that I get to hear and photograph some of the best artists in the world live, and it’s just another day at the office!
