#NewMusicTuesday: Brett Young
In the world of country music, the big names often take the forefront. You know them; you play them on repeat when you’re in the mood for the soothing voices of Blake Shelton and Tim McGraw, or want to jam out to the songs of Keith Urban and Brad Paisley, so familiar you could sing along in your sleep. However, one of the oldest genres of American music is constantly graced with new talent, young musicians who move the genre forward with their innovative and creative take on the traditional country sound. One such musician is Brett Young, a college baseball pitcher turned songwriter, who released his first EP earlier this year, followed by the highly-regarded single “Sleep Without You” in April.
In an exclusive interview with iHeartRadio, the young singer takes a moment from the whirlwind of his rise to country music fame, and talks about his childhood and the experience of writing his EP. Brett found musical inspiration through his family, from the oldies his parents played during his childhood to the posters and tracks his older sister loved. The R&B influence, which he talks about in the exclusive, has not gone unnoticed by critics and fans, who praise Brett’s music for its sincerity and his unique take on the country genre.
